What is the difference between Spyware, Adware and Viruses

The differences between Spyware, Adware and Viruses which attack your computer are somewhat varied. My aim is to point some of those differences out in this short article.

Spyware

Spyware is a malicious software that will not necessarily damage your PC. Spywares main function is to facilitate access to your PC and allow a third party to gain control any personal information you may have on your hard drive.
Routinely spyware will record which websites you visit, then record this information and pass it onto advertisers to permit them to send you unsolicited emails and pop-ups.
Spyware has become a major problem for all unsuspecting internet users and should be avoided at all costs. Spyware is more intrusive than adware.

Spyware have their own individual executable programs which gives them the ability to record your keystrokes, scan files on your hard drive and record which applications you use, including but not restricted to forums, cookies and Web browser settings.
All the information gathered from your hard drive is then forwarded to the person who developed the spyware, they will then sell this info advertisers and other parties.

Adware

In comparison Adware is a devious form of freeware. Unlike spyware, adware is a bloated form of software or program which is installed automatically once that particular program or software is downloaded and installed onto your PC system.
Some forms of adware, on the other hand, download advertising content as a specific application which finds it’s way into some of your more vulnerable hard drive sectors.
You will know when you have spyware when you notice frequent pop ups, error messages and a sudden loss of speed.
Adware also affects the startup and shutdown times of your computer by clogging the system with useless processes slowing everything down to a crawl.

Viruses

Meanwhile, viruses are the most feared and destructive forms of  malicious software.
They were solely designed and programmed for one purpose alone which is to create havoc with your personal computer. They corrupt any vulnerable files or applications on your PC and will replicate themselves to infact as many sectors of your PC as possible.

Luckily there are very good anti virus programs available to prevent amy infections on your PC, the better programs also scan your system for adware and spyware, if detected action will be taken to nutralize them.
There are programs dedicated to protect your PC by first detecting and then removing any malicious program which has attached itself to your hard drive. They all have the same purpose with different chances of success, hard drive scans and malicious software removal is standard. Any errors detected in your registry file and other crucial areas on your hard drive will be nutralized.

Conclusion

I recommend that you frequently update your pathogen or spyware scanner to make sure that your personal computer is protected from the thousands of spyware and viruses lurking on the web. If you are downloading anything from the internet be aware that your chances of being the victim of attacks on your PC goes up dramatically.
Learn how to setup firewall systems and always use pop-up blockers to reduce the chances your PC gets infected and make sure the security settings on your browser are set to high.
